MAKİNATEK- TURKEY’S FIRST “RENTAL SUMMIT” TAKES PLACE

Forklift and Industrial Equipment Rental has a lot of potential in Turkey

Materials Handling, Storage&Industrial Equipment Association of Turkey- İSDER has organized Turkey’s first “Material Handling, Storage, Industrial and Construction Equipment Rental Summit” at İstanbul Pendik Greenpark Hotel on Tuesday, 13th of October. At the opening speech of the summit, İSDER President Ender Akbaytogan has stated that the rental sector has a good potential and said: “The rental system is a still developing concept in our sector. Rental is not passive like purchasing. Despite the negative course of the economy, rental would still have a potential.”

The summit has brought the most important names of the rental world where about 300 senior officials have shared their experiences. In addition to attendees from the forklift, powered access, tower crane, construction equipment, compressor sectors, the summit has also brought together the investors, rental experts, company owners, CEOs and decision makers with directors from Europe and world.

Summit started with a minute of silence for those who died at the tragic fact in Ankara and the Turkish National Anthem. At his opening speech, İSDER President Ender Akbaytogan said: “The recent terrorist attack in Ankara has taken many souls. Our pain is infinite. We would like to once again condemn terrorism and pray to Allah for those who have lost their lives.”

We are the 6th largest market of Europe

Akbaytogan reminded that İSDER was found in 2006 and stated that with 57 members, they represent 70 % of the sector. Akbaytogan indicated that, as İSDER, they are a board member of the European Materials Handling Federation (FEM). He said: “Our country is the 6th largest market for the forklift sector.  In 2014, it has grew by 14 % and has delivered. 12.500 of the 13.450 orders to the end-customers. In 2015, we unfortunately expect 10% decline in the market. We hope that towards 2020s, we will have a higher place among the European countries. The rental system is still a developing concept in our sector as it is not passive like purchasing. Despite the negative course of economy, rental would still has a potential.  Rental increases the usage and sales of the machines while providing a lot of employment. “

24 of the sector representatives from Europe’s and world’s giants of the rental sector have informed the participants at the inauguration. Among these speakers there were Per Lundquist (European Rental Association) , Rupert Craven ( Ritchie Bros- Director of England and Ireland), Fred Bratman from USA (Vice President of the United Rentals), Romina Vanzi (IPAF International Powered Access Federation, Regional Director ) and TOKKDER President, LeasePlan General Manager Türkay OKTAY. At the summit, Bloomberg HT Chief Editor Cüneyt Başaran has moderated the session called ” Overall Sector Assessment of 2015″.

30 Percent Annual Growth

One of the speakers at the panel, İSDER President of Rental Committee Özgür Pala has stated that there are 1453 companies in Turkey operating in the forklift and industrial equipment rental business with 15 thousand employees. Pala has indicated that they expect 300 %growth in the rental sector over the next 10 years and said:  ” We aim for 2,4 billion dollars of turnover in 2024.  800 million dollars of current annual rental turnover has an average of 30 percent growth potential. “

Improvements have begun in Europe

On behalf of the European Rental Association ( ERA) , Per Lundquist has spoken. He underlined that they’ve 5 thousand members and said : ” For 2014, in the construction industry, we’ve seen improvements in the sales of machines in Europe. Starting from 2014 , rental market has reached a certain growth rate and we think that this will increasingly continue in the upcoming years at European countries. Rental market is not saturated. In 2017, there will be a remarkable growth in the rental sector and we will increasingly renew the amount of our fleets. “

Price is not determining factor

From USA, United Rentals Vice President Fred Bratman has stated that the Turkish rental sector is still very young and that it could be an advantage. Bratman indicated that price is not determining factor on its own and said: “The swift repair of the rental machine, quick  transportation of the machines at the end of the job, logistical support and correct invoicing are the determining factors of the rental sector. “
